It was with a strange feeling of joy that we boarded the boat on Sunday to leave Ko Tao. Funny, but with not feeling well for a bit I was definately glad to see the back of the paradise island. I felt like I had overstayed by a week or so. We had originally planned to leave Ko Tao and go to Krabi and Ko Phi Phi. This was not to be.
The boat trip to Ko Samui was about 1hr 30 mins on board a Catamran. We stopped for passengers on Ko Pha Ngan before finally arriving in Ko Samui. It was great to get here. Upon arriving at the dock, we got a transfer bus to Chaweng (this was free with the Lomprayah boat company) and Sarah went about finding us accomodation.
We stayed at the Silver Sands which was a great find. It was 1000bt per night including air con & fridge and was only a 2 min walk to the beautiful beach that stretches along Chaweng. The water is crystal clear, the sun shines all year. As we lay having a massage and looking out over the sea, we both felt really privileaged to be
here, definatley worth the detour to get here.
Chaweng is a great place to stay, there is good atmosphere, plenty of places to eat & drink and many shops to keep the Bhat ticking over. We ate well, ranging from perfect pizza to magnificant mexican.
The highlight of our short time on Ko Samui was setting off Chinese lanterns on the beach. We had bought some on Ko Tao but never got to launch them, so it was a great feeling lighting them, making a wish, and launching them into the crystal clear, stary night sky.
So the time has come to move on and leave Thailand. We will look back on this country with fondness, remembering the beauty in the scenery, the diversity in the regions, the smiles around every corner.
