After working for the vineyard, ARA, I decided to take a little road trip down the South Island for the weekend, via the West Coast. One of the more spectacular road trips Ive ever taken. If your coming to Sydney, be sure to pack as many florescent hoodies as you can take in your Qantas allowed 30 kilogram bag. Trust me, you will need them all for two main reasons. One, to gain entrance into the hottests, quasi L.A. clubs downtown and two, for breaking the ice with cool international D.J.'s you meet at the kebab stand after the show. Be prepared once ingaged. 400 words seem to be to short, whilst 1300 seems a bit long. So I've decided to keep this in between. After reading through multiple blogs on this website, I've come to realize the different styles some writers have. Accounts of every day life, self realizations, anecdotes, tall tales, historical accounts, past life references and of course, epiphanies. Welcome to the city of New Orleans.............Willie Nelson would not be proud of my lack of recollection, but hum the tune while you read this and it might paint a better picture. After a brief stint in Malaysia, I booked it up north to Thailand by train. The rest of the Sultans were already there. It was May 8th, my birthday, so I celebrated on the train with some new friends sitting next to me. Not much of a celebration, two beers, some chips and a pen/flash light as a gift. With the male crew agents gone, I finally had Mrs. Gonzales to myself. We high tailed it North through Sumatran jungle counties, in search of Banda Ache. We didn’t fall in love, but strong friendships were made. The bus was typical Indonesian fare: bald tyres, cramped seats , three hours late, shocks that had been replaced by a Panzers, Muslim karaoke blasting till 3AM and of course the spasmatic driver that switches the wheel with his partner. As I sit in my longyi, cherroot in hand, outside my house in Sydney, I have the sudden thought that, maybe, just maybe, my friends and family might like to know where I’ve been for the last six months.
