| 20th July 2008 Jen | Retracing my steps - From: Night 306, New York in a Night! Reading the last few blogs has been great. I only had 2 days in Chicago and had a cocktail in the Signature lounge, 1 day in Washington and walked past the White House, a week in Toronto and 1 day in NY. I agree the best way to do NY is with the girls for a spot of shopping, a Broadshow show, a few cakes and a dozen cocktails. Let's go for my birthday, the 18th of April and do it in style! Missing talking to you both. Love, Jen xxx |

Reading this blog is very appropiate as we're in La Fortuna and about to head to Monteverde. Can't wait to try the Tarzan swing and zip lines. That's a great lava shot too, Arenal was covered for our tour so we saw very little. |
| 16th July 2008 Mike and Sarah | Yep, not much for young kids at all! - From: Days 291 - 298, Viagra Lifts…….Niagara Falls!! (& Toronto) Thanks for pointing out these additional things for older children Carolyn/Gunga. Unfortunately these were not suited when travelling with a child under the age of three who really wanted parks and open spaces to play which were in very short supply. Mike and Sarah |
| 10th July 2008 Carolyn Taylor | Really? Not much kds? - From: Days 291 - 298, Viagra Lifts…….Niagara Falls!! (& Toronto) I was amazed at your comment about there not being a lot for kids to do in the Toronto area. I just returned from a week there with my 5 grandchildren ages 4-17. We could have stayed another week and still not done everything we wanted to do. # 1 The Science Center. It has to be one of the best in the world. That alone could have been 2 or 3 days of activity. The kids loved every minute of it. # 2. The Zoo- also a big hit especially the pool where you could touch sting rays ( they feel like silk). # 3. Casa Loma- a real castle with a turret you can climb, secret stairways and wonderful fountains and gardens. # 4 The Royal Ontario Museum- fantastic dinos. #5- the Hockey Hall of Fame- all of these plus the CN tower and a thrill ride there were included in the City Pass ( $64 for adults, $43 for kids). But the best kid place is Ontario Place which had rides and water activities. The kids stayed till it closed and they kicked us out. This was my second visit with my kids ( now adults ages 38 and 41) as they remembered Toronto as being the best family vacation we had when they were only ages 8 and 11. Sorry you didn't find much to do but it's not because Toronto doesn't have things for kids. Carolyn - blogger name 'gunga' |
| 27th June 2008 PA Leslie | - From: Day 285 Getting the VIP treatment from Universal Studios Hollywood! Hi, fun to read that you reply to the same forums as me...and when I checked your page...well, we are in Las Vegas airport on our way to LA as Leslie, my son wanted to go to Universal Studio...so we are going to be there just few days after you. His first visit there was when he was 18 months old...guess it will be a different experience. Great blog you have! |
| 26th June 2008 Mike and Sarah | FREO - From: Days 90 to 93 G'Day Mate! We generally do not accept factually incorrect comments to our blog from randoms, though, yours made us laugh. I guess, given the psychic powers you claim to have, you knew this would be the reaction and the response, so thanks in advance. For those who weren't aware of the correct details, and do not have psychic powers like Ethony( or Ash as she has called herself here), the correct details, like we published on our blog, are outlined below, but expanded slightly.... FYFI: The Round House is the oldest remaining building in Western Australia. It was built as a gaol and was the first permanent building in the colony. It was designed by HW Reveley, the colony's first civil engineer, and built in 1830 - 1831. The Round House had eight cells and a gaolers residence which all opened up into a central courtyard. If you check your definition of a gaol, it is defined as a 'lock up, confine or jail'..... S.O.Y - means whatever you want it to mean, or what ever your parents told you, but involves birds and their excrement. |
| 26th June 2008 Ash | Freo - From: Days 90 to 93 G'Day Mate! FYI: S.O.Y - means Soil on You. And the Roundhouse was not an old Prison is was an old Whaling Station. |

I hope it wasnt so scary! Hope all is good - where are you guys now? Much love, Holly and Jane xxx |

| 20th June 2008 Bren | Incas - From: Days 259 & 265 - 267, Catching our breath with Corpus Christi in Cusco I was under the impression the Incas were defeated by the Spanish in part because they thought the Spaniards were gods. Now this all goes back the "Indiana Jones Theory", but apparently the Incas had a legend about returning goods and when the Spaniards came in their armour with guns that's who they thought they were. You can't fight god what he does to you is your judgement so you basically take it. Also the Spaniards brought diseases which the Incas were unused to. Eventually they did rise up against the Spaniards, but there were more of them (Spanish) at that stage and they (The Incas) were weakened and generally at a technological disadvantage. Also after defeating the Moors the Spanish at that time were a very warlike people, just without any "heathens" to destroy in Europe and America served this purpose for them. |
| 18th June 2008 Brendan Heading | Class - From: Days 274 - 279. Blackjack, Elton & Hooters...... it's got to be Vegas!! Ah yes, I saw Mystere when I was there a year and a half ago .. it's a damn good show. Hooters is cool as well, when it's busy, although they can skimp a bit on the free drink. I didn't get to do the helicopter trip, sadly. I'm glad you guys had a good time there. Did you play any craps ?:) |
| 9th June 2008 Mike and Sarah | Jealous of your Pisco Sours! - From: Days 259 & 265 - 267, Catching our breath with Corpus Christi in Cusco We are VERY jealous about the Cross keys! Maybe next time?! |
| 9th June 2008 Mike and Sarah | Thanks for the Answers!! - From: Days 259 & 265 - 267, Catching our breath with Corpus Christi in Cusco Cheers for the insight! Cusco is an amazing place we enjoyed thoroughly. I really agree with your comments on children and making sure they attend school, we are acutely aware of this after travelling through Cambodia last year. In Peru we were told there are various times available to attend school, i.e., morning or afternoon classes. Families choose which ones they go to, so you will always find some kids around. Cheers :-) |
| 9th June 2008 Gunga | Possible answers.... - From: Days 259 & 265 - 267, Catching our breath with Corpus Christi in Cusco Having just spent a month in Cusco( my 3rd. visit)this is some of what I've learned: 1. used slaves, 2. think of legos- they carved small raised knobs to hold stones together,3. cuy reproduce quickly,4- guns!5 No one is sure they ever found MP. An aside about taking pics of street kids- my friends in Cusco say not to do it during school hours as parents keep the kids out of school and are basically are 'pimping' them. Enjoyed your blog as it brought back wonderful memories of my time there in June a few years ago. Carolyn ( blogger name 'Gunga') |
| 9th June 2008 barrygahan | I'd love to have seen the Corpus Christi festival - From: Days 259 & 265 - 267, Catching our breath with Corpus Christi in Cusco I agree, you are jammy, being there for that festival. We saw two festivals in May but I believe the CC one is best. As a small consolation, Cross Keys was open for our visit! Great blog, Barry |

| 3rd June 2008 Ellen Around the World | Inca Trail - From: Day 264, Mike & Sarah do Machu Picchu Hey Guys - I've also just done the Inca Trail (yeah I know my blog says Im in Guatemala!). The Inca Trail was actually what made my Machu Picchu experience! It's such a shame that you were dissapointed with your tour company experience and didnt get to spend enough time at MP. My problem was the opposite - my train back to Cusco was at 6pm - so I had almost too long there!! E |
