Singapore by Night
From the Cameron Highlands, we took the overnight bus south to the modern metropolis of Singapore. We arrived into Singapore at around 5am and as a result had to sit outside our guesthouse until reception opened at 7am. As we felt tired and drained after our final long bus journey of the trip we spent our first day in Singapore at the Zoo, watching the brilliant free-roaming Orang-Utans, the beautiful White Tigers and the hilarious Chimpanzees. We have been so lucky to see so much amazing wildlife on our trip and this was our final chance to see some of them [View Full Entry]

On the boat from Bali to Lombok
Hi everybody! First of all for those of you who haven't heard, we have had a change in our plans, and we will now be returning home around 3 weeks earlier than planned, on Thursday!! Because of the change of plans we chose not to go to Sulawesi amd instead headed for the idyllic tropical Gili Islands. Gili Trawangan & Gili Meno We spent a few days on both of these islands. Gili Trawangan was the more lively of the two wit some great restaurants and bars and fantastic snorkelling right off shore where you could easily spot turtles, giant octopus [View Full Entry]

Back Again! Our next stage of the trip took us to the Colourful island of Bali famous for surfing, beaches and colourful Hindu culture. Kuta We spent our first few days in Bali at the famous beach resort of Kuta. Infamous site of the tragic 2002 Bali bombings. The town had a very relaxed atmosphere with a real mix of people of all ages and races mingling together around its narrow streets, that head down to the famous beach and surf beyond. Our time in Kuta was spent generally relaxing on the beach and enjoying the cheap food and beer on [View Full Entry]

Hello Again Everyone! The next stage of our trip took us from Sumatra to Java, seen as the heartbeat of Indonesia and home to 60% of its population. Jakarta & Bogor We flew from Padang in Sumatra to Jakarta, the bustling capital of Indonesia in Western Java. From what we had heard Jakarta was not really a place to linger and so we had planned our only full day in and around the city to be spent in Bogor, an hours train ride away, site of the Bogor Botanical Gardens (Known as Kebun Raya) seen by many as one of the [View Full Entry]

They just strolled straight past us! Pretty gorgeous
Hello Again! We rejoin our adventure on the rainforest clad island of Sumatra a land of Wild Orang-Utans even wilder volcanoes and a real feel of adventure. Well actually we had to reach Sumatra first from Penang which involved a six hour journey on a small ferry across the open sea and up and down waves I could swear were 10m high! Plastic bags were handed out throughout the journey and just as quickly filled, I managed to keep my breakfast down and was gently rocked into slumber serenaded by the sound of hurling in stereo!! Eventually we made it to [View Full Entry]

Hello yet again everyone! Yes this is 4 blogs in 3 days i know, but i thought i better get you all up to date as we will be disappearing off the radar for a little while tomorrow into the jungles of Sumatra! Pulau Perhentian Kecil After the long, freezing cold overnight bus journey from Melaka to Kota Bharu we stayed in Kota Bharu for 1 night sampling the famous night market food whilst watching the opening ceremony of the olympics (everyone seems to be olympics mad in Malaysia, its on everywhere!!) we moved onto the blissfull Perhentian islands (Perhentian Besar [View Full Entry]

Hey People, Us Again!! After the beautiful Angkor Wat, our next destination was Malaysia, starting with its Striking, Modern capital, Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur After sleepy, relaxed Cambodia Kuala Lumpur (KL) proved to be a major gear change for us, modern buildings, public transport you could set your watch to and restaurants catering to anything you could wish for. Although perhaps KL offers a less cultural eperience than some of the other places we have visited so far, it proved to be one of the easiest places in which to spend time. We greatly enjoyed our 4 days here (1 of [View Full Entry]

Well, what can I say? Everybody should visit Angkor! This place is simply breathtaking, even better than the very high expectations that we had for it. We spent 5 nights in Siem Reap which gave us enough time to explore the temples for 3 full days, and they were 3 of the best days of our trip so far. First of all Siem Reap is a surprisingly pleasant town to wander around, with some impressive french architecture and lovely cafes and restaurants to refuel at after a hard day of temple spotting!! Our first day in Siem Reap we spent in [View Full Entry]

Hello There Friends!! After the rest and relaxation of the Mekong Delta we travelled to the Cambodian capital city of Phnom Penh. The Journey was by slow boat, and the name didn't lie! The boat was definately slow taking around 9 hours in total but luckily the scenery along the way was fantastic. We watched children playing in the river and locals washing and fishing as we trundled by, being overaken by the occasional duck in the process!! The day of this journey was in fact the wedding day of my oldest friend Sir Graeme Hill (or is it Hainsworth now?? [View Full Entry]

Hello There, Sorry for the long gap in blogs, I'll try and get you all up to date. Ninh Binh We left Sapa and headed south past Hanoi to the town of Ninh Binh. The countryside around Ninh Binh was stunning and we enjoyed a few days here cycling around the area seeing sights such as Rach Ga (Chicken Canal Village) where much of the lives of the people is conducted on the river, set in a beautiful area surrounded by limestone karsts. We also visited Tam Coc known as the Halong Bay on the rice fields and enjoyed being paddled [View Full Entry]
