Are you in Bangkok/Northen Thailand?

Topic Type: Information
We're heading to Bangkok on Monday and, given the latest happenings in the city, are concerned that we're going to have trouble travelling around Bangkok and the north of Thailand. Anyone there able to let us know how the unrest is affecting tourists?

Over the weekend thousands of holidaymakers were delayed when PAD supporters blockaded and closed three busy airports in southern Thailand. Rail services have been severely disrupted by strike action.

I'm in Chiang Mai in the north, so I've been watching events in Bangkok from afar. Thaksin was popular up here and the PAD who have been demanding that the Prime Minister resign are not so popular up here. Many trains are not running and it seems as if the action may also have an impact on flights on Thai airways. Some airports in the south have also been blockaded but not the airports in Bangkok. A good up to date source online to check is the Bangkok Post.

I read 3 airports in the South - including Phuket - were closed on Friday, but are now open. Most people seemd to be saying that they saw little evidence of extra security other than what was being shown on TV.

Hey Im teaching in BAngkok...akthought i see the news and hear of all this madness...I have not seen any of it or anything out fo the oridnary. Bangkok is under a state of Emergency...and actually allot of schools...mine included are shutdown for the rest of the week. (sweet for me as i get 5 days off now....but a bit worrysome)....Also The canadian embassy emailed me to be careful, etc etc....and I also read that alot of thailand surrounding countries advise their people not to travel here for unnecessary reasons...so id just sya be careful...but i feel like people are still carrying on their day to day lives...
