Exploring Sydney is easy......the transport system is convenient & the city is relatively small, easily explored on foot. There have been many times we have been out in Sydney without our camera, so in an effort to capture some of the more unusual or unseen Sydney sights Sarah headed off into town.
The National Museum of Australia has two exhibitions I wanted to see; Face to Face. An exhibit of more than thirty larger than life photographic portraits & biographies of many young or orphaned gorillas, chimpanzees & orang-utans from sancturies around the world. Although scary at first with the faces of 3 foot gorillas looking at me, the exhibit was very interesting telling the story of these amazing animals & the effort to protect their habitat.
Also at the museum was the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition. This exhibit captured images from wildlife around the world. The categories were Age 10 and under, 11-14, 14-18 & Adult. The pictures were incredible & some just made me amazed at how such incredible images could be captured. By now, Michael & I have over nine thousand photographs from our travels. Trying to even decide which ones to put on
the blog to share with you is sometimes very difficult. So to see a collection of images, all unique & showing animals & wildlife from accross the globe was right up my street!!
Next to the museum is Hyde Park, the home of the Anzac memorial. A place for Sydneysiders & travellers to come & enjoy the peace & tranquility in the city as well as remember the men & women who fought in wars. After that I headed to the Queen Victoria Building. Another iconic building in Sydney. This is described by the designer Valentino as "the most glamorous shopping centre in the world." At the centre of the four mezzanine floors is the clock. Describing Australia's aborigonal history it is a big tourist pull into the QVB, that and the many lovely shops!
After having a wander with my camera I met Michael & the rest of the gang for a $7 steak. We also made it to County Bondi this week to catch up with Kieran & Clarie. (So called "County Bondi" from the sheer volume of Irish travellers in this part of Sydney!) Mike had a special run in with the moose in the
Cock & Bull pub! Great dancing & a band were sure to keep us all happy.
So, another week of fun & frolics! We even managed to keep smiling after getting our Yellow Fever jabs to be allowed into South America.
That's all for now.
Sarah & Mike.
