Mission Beach, Queensland - the place Sarah & Mike jumped out of a plane at 14,000 feet. Freefalling for 60 seconds at speeds of up to 140 mph! WOW.......what a feeling!
Getting collected from our camp site at 7.15am we were weary the morning of the jump. After a late night sharing some stories with a lovely Dutch couple we met, falling out of a plane didn't seem as appealing as a few extra hours in bed! There was a full bus load from Mission Beach to Tully Airfield where the plane takes off from. The bus was quiet most of the way there are we filled in our forms to say we couldn't sue if we died etc.
When we got to the airfield I was glad to hear that we would be on the first plane. We got suited and were given a quick safety brief before heading over to the plane. It was a 20 minute flight to get us up to 14000 ft. As the time went by I was asking myself, why didn't I go to the toilet before I got on the plane??
The red light came on at the back of
the plane to tell us that we were only 2 mins from the jump zone. The thin plastic shutter door was opened and the excitement level heightened even more. By this time my mouth was totally dry, but I was able to join in the shouts that everyone seem to participate in. Next light was amber, 1 minute to go. The photographers climbed outside the plane ready for the first jump. Green light........ The first jumper went out the door and the jump sequence had started.
Sarah was 4th to jump and with a wave good bye to Michael she was out. Everyone seemed to drop like a stone once out the door. Michael was next out. The feeling was absolutely amazing as we were falling. We would have 60 seconds of free fall. The time went really quickly, the feeling of flying and wind rushing up at you were truly incredible. We expected a massive jurk when the parachute opened, but this was not the case. It was a pretty smooth transaction into glide.
We were both allowed to take control of the parachute 'steering' for part of the glide. The views of the beach and water
were fantastic. The glide down took about 5 mins before we landed gently on the sand.
The feelings are amazing, both of us have agreed that this has been the biggest adrhenaline rush we have had and we would definately recommend this. A MASSIVE THANK YOU to Sarah who treated Michael to this jump for his birthday. What a great pressie.
We have had huge smiles on our faces all day, and we have just been delivered the DVD of the jump and the pictures. The DVD it too big to put on this, but a copy will be zooming its was home shortly..
Next update coming soon, we're off for a well deserved tinney!!!
