Honduras After school I never thought Id spend 7 hours on a school bus. But that is how we got from Belize City to Punta Gorda. They squish as many people as they can on the buses and thru the aisles and make stops wherever someone wants to be picked up. You rotate from knees on the seat in front of you squashed down a bit to head on the seat in front of you to sitting up straight...every 10 min

Belize The next morning we got back on the bus to cross over to Belize. We got off at the crossing to go to immigration then had to walk over the bridge to Belize and go thru customs. We got thru customs and thought our bus had left but a guy helped us spot it 400m down the road. Belize is on the Caribbean and we were back in English speaking territory. Most of them speak Creole and even if yo

Moving on into Guatemala I was looking forward to this part of the trip. I travelled here several years ago and what I remembered of it was all good. First stop was Tikal we camped at the ruins and in the morning you could hear all the monkeys and birds waking up...it was like something out of Jurrasic Park.....every monkey thought that he was romeo Most of the group got up at 4am for a early

Last night I had a very involved conversation with la Seora Primitiva I swear I did all about what time Kristen and I needed to wake up in order to catch our bus to Huancayo in the morning. Thought we had it all figured out we truly did. But either la seora was too distracted by her evening prayers to give us the right information or something got seriously lost in translation because a

When you hail a cab you do two things haggle over the price then hop in and lock the door. If you don't the driver will do it for you. That's so no one jumps in and carjacks you en route I assume.
He's dropped us off on a slipway in a sea of motorways. We're on the outskirts of Seville Spain and the sun had gone down a long time ago. Suddenly hitchhiking from Wales to Morocco doesn't seem so rosy. I am with John a friend from Swansea University and we're just two of the idiots who signed up to this adventure in the name of charity. We start walking just a walk to take us away from this

Wheels And Welcomes

Walking along the riverside in Hamah Syria. It's a humid night full of noise. Nearby the crickets and cicadas are buzzing loudly in the reeds and in the distance the slow persistent creaking of water wheels is keeping a steady beat. These wheels locally known as norias up to 20 metres in diameter are centuries old endlessly scooping the water from the Orontes River and tipping it into mini

Although on the banks of the misty and picturesque lake Lipno Coco summed it up by saying the lake looks pretty from the tent but when you go down there there's lots of gross stuff the lake isn't actually dirty but

This entry describes the frenetic burst of activity required to achieve weathertightness before the first frosts and

Sunday 24th AugustAfter a good 11 hours of sleep we were ready to tackle some more hikes. This time we headed to the top of the mountain and walked to Taft Point for some spectacular views of the valley floor and where we had explored the day before. It was fun looking down but we were both grateful for the metal railing put in to aid the view. We then hiked along the mountain edge to Glacier Poi
